No fancy marketing budgets, no venture capital, angel funding or bank loans. No experience, really. Just two aspiring entrepreneurs with an idea and the dedication (or foolishness) to carry it from concept to reality.
After taking a long look at our lives, we decided to start a distillery because we live for good drinks and wanted to experience the ups and downs of entrepreneurship.
After studying both rum production methods and federal, state and local regulations for years, we moved from our home in Chicago to Knightdale, near where the Lassiter family is originally from. We opened our doors in 2016, and the rest, as they say, is history.
Gentry leads all production activities at Lassiter Distilling Company and personally distills every batch of rum that leaves our doors. He has a passion for creating great rum ever since discovering more refined expressions of the spirit while traveling for his previous role at a multinational pharmaceutical company.
Gentry's work is focused on creating our core expressions while continuing to innovate and grow our brand through new lines as well as marketing and sales for all of our products.
Rebecca leads marketing, events and our retail portion of the distillery, and she contributes to production activities as well. She makes sure that we attend the events that make sense to get our brand out there.
Rebecca certainly has the better personality of the two of us, and she also manages a lot of our community engagement with nonprofit organizations. She has a passion for good drinks and making the world a better place.
Rebecca also keeps the bills paid while our small business gets off the ground. She works in risk management for a large financial company.
